THIS MIRROR HAS A GLASS MOSAIC FRAME
This mirror has a frame with a mosaic . This technique consists of assembling fragments of colored pieces to form a pattern. These pieces, the tesserae, can be made of ceramic, stone or glass as in this mirror. The mosaic has a very dense history since it has undergone important developments in all periods. Remarkable uses can be highlighted during the Roman and Byzantine civilizations.
THE PATTERN REPRESENTS FOLIAGE AND LIGHT
The tesserae were cut to form small sheets. They are green. They were placed in such a way as to create a movement. The whole form a foliage that seems dynamic. In addition, the tesserae are made of glass ; reflections of light are created in the foliage. By changing places, the spectator can then see a play of light like those that one can observe in a vegetation. By standing in front of the mirror, one finds oneself in the middle of the foliage.
